Coordinate the survey with the study objective
The required accuracy, coverage, control points and output format should be defined from the purpose of the study. A survey designed around the final technical requirement is more useful than collecting data without a clear output specification.

Define the end use before choosing the survey method
A drone flight, DGPS survey and topographical survey do not automatically produce the same kind of deliverable. The correct method depends on whether the project needs lease-boundary coordinates, current site imagery, terrain levels, stockpile information, cross-sections, GIS layers or a map for a statutory document.
Coordinate reference systems and control points
Survey outputs should use the coordinate reference and control framework required by the final report or authority. If drone imagery and ground survey are prepared in different systems without proper control, the resulting layers may not align accurately.
Mining and replenishment studies need repeatable data
For mine planning or riverbed replenishment studies, survey information may be compared across different dates. Consistent control points, survey methods and mapped boundaries make those comparisons more defensible than one-time imagery with no reference framework.
Site conditions affect flight and field planning
Terrain, vegetation, nearby structures, access, weather, airspace restrictions and the required ground resolution all influence survey planning. The field plan should be decided after understanding the output expected by the project team.
Use survey outputs in the technical document
The value of a survey is not only the map. It should feed into the mine plan, EIA/EMP, replenishment study, site layout or other document that required the information in the first place.
